Study Abroad in Spain

Why Spain?
There was a time when Spain held the most powerful empire in the world, and in many ways, it is still the crossroads of Europe and Africa. Because of this studying abroad in Spain offers students an opportunity to learn about many cultures while living in one small country. The fierce sport of bullfighting can be found there, and the passionate music and dance of the flamenco. But there is also rich cultural diversity, from the Celtic musical traditions in the north to the Moorish architecture in the south. World Endeavors students in Spain immerse themselves in Spanish language and culture and learn to live on a different rhythm.

Program Information**

Live in Seville, Spain
Seville is the capital of Andalusia, the southernmost region of Spain and the home of flamenco dancing, bullfighting, and some of Europe’s most vivacious and colorful festivals. Morocco is just across the straits of Gibraltar, and Andalusia is a crossroads of European and African culture, with a flair that’s entirely its own. The region’s culture is exemplified in Seville, where a history of cross-cultural sharing can be seen in a dazzling array of North African, European, and Middle Eastern architecture. Today’s Seville is a graceful and vibrant city, where it’s easy to spend an afternoon following cobbled alleyways or relaxing in a palm-lined courtyard and to spend a night with friends sharing a plate of tapas and dancing the night away.

Program Snapshot

Academics : After successful completion of the program, academic credit and transcripts will be issued by Pablo de Olavide University. World Endeavors staff work with students and their academic advisors to ensure that students earn credit for courses taken abroad.

Students applying to this program must have:
  • Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.90 on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent.
  • Fluency in English is required; no Spanish language experience is required. Students will take classes that suit their level of ability in Spanish.

Housing and Participant Life : Participants in this program stay with local Spanish host families. Staying with families is a valuable part of becoming immersed in the local culture, and it’s one of the best ways for students to practice their Spanish outside the classroom. Host families are very welcoming and enjoy having foreign students stay with them. All host family accommodation includes three meals every day, plus laundry.
