Volunteer Abroad in Costa Rica

header-image-world-endeavors

Why Costa Rica?
Costa Rica’s renowned biodiversity, laid-back culture, and breathtaking landscapes make it one of the most popular tourist destinations in Latin America. Costa Rica is home to 5% of the world’s biodiversity, while occupying only 0.25% of the world’s landmass. The Costa Rican people have a well-deserved reputation for being friendly, fun-loving, and welcoming to foreigners.

Despite its natural beauty and wonderful people, Costa Rica experiences problems affecting many Latin American countries. Many nonprofit organizations working to improve conditions in local Costa Rican communities lack funding and volunteer support. With eco-tourism ranking as Costa Rica’s main industry, education and environmental conservation are essential to ensuring a bright future for the Costa Rican people.

Program Information

Live in Esparza, Costa Rica
World Endeavors volunteers live in Esparza, a medium-sized agricultural town nestled amongst the mountains above Rio Barranca, in the Central Pacific Coast area of Costa Rica. The pace of life is relaxed. It is not unusual to see horses being ridden in the street. The town itself is off the tourist trail, however the nearest beach for surf and relaxation is only 2 minutes away. Nearby you can also find canopy tours as well as the world-famous attractions of Puntarenas, including a marine park and a newly renovated marina. Likewise, the nearest national park, Carara is only about an hour's drive away.

Fields
We offer volunteer placements in Costa Rica in the following fields:
Program Snapshot

Housing: Volunteers stay in a shared volunteer house and stay in shared rooms. There is also a large dining hall/games room/communal area, with free WiFi, and table tennis, and a large garden of tropical plants, including coconut palm, papaya, banana, and citrus. Three meals a day on weekdays (two on weekends) are included during your stay. The meals will mainly be a mix of traditional and modern Costa Rican food, so you may experience the Costa Rican take on foods you will be familiar with. Most meals will include either fish, chicken, pork or beef, but vegetarians can be catered for.

Dates: Volunteer projects in Costa Rica are available year-round, with some exceptions for holidays.

Duration: Participants can choose any duration between 1 and 12 weeks.

Cost: See our website for program fee information.
