Program Description:
London-Florence header
The ACM London & Florence: Arts in Context program gives you the exciting opportunity to experience an interdisciplinary immersion in the arts and history in cities that have been central to the development of Western culture.

On the streets of London and Florence, you’ll trace the steps and experience the creative output of famous artists and writers, architects and actors — from Leonardo da Vinci and William Shakespeare up to the present day.

London-Florence photoExpert faculty and guest speakers will guide you in classes that are frequently held on-site at landmarks in both cities. You’ll also be immersed in contemporary urban life. In London, you and your classmates will regularly attend the theatre and live in a vibrant neighborhood. You'll have a homestay in Florence, study conversational Italian, and take class trips to Rome and Venice.

With nearly two months in each city — and numerous field trips to surrounding locations — you’ll gain an understanding of how two contrasting cultures have developed over centuries, while exploring the similarities of two remarkable cities, as well. You can also take advantage of a one-week break between the two segments of the program for independent travel.

  • In London: Choose two electives from among courses focused on topics such as theatre, museum studies, and London through the perspectives of art and architecture. (Note: the 18-week London-first semester and London winter quarter/trimester include an additional intensive museum studies course for three weeks in January.)
  • In Florence: Choose two electives from among courses exploring topics in Medieval and Renaissance art, history, and literature, plus a conversational Italian language course. (Note: the 18-week Florence-first semester and the Florence winter quarter/trimester include an additional intensive Italian language course for three weeks in January.
