Program Description:

indonesian overseas program (iop)

Open to students of all ability levels, the Indonesian Overseas Program (IOP) enables participants to gain cultural knowledge and language competency while experiencing the vibrant traditions of Indonesia. Participants receive intensive language training and participate in cultural immersion activities while on-program.

Program Features

Offered in Malang, Indonesia

Available during Fall, Spring, and Academic Year terms
18 – 20 hours per week of intensive coursework in Indonesian language at Universitas Negeri Malang taught by expert faculty. Individualized courses strengthen speaking, listening, writing, and reading skills at all language levels, from beginner to advanced. Advanced students may cover topics in Indonesian literature, history, politics, and regional studies
Participants earn 15-16 U.S. academic credits per semester in Indonesian language and regional studies through Bryn Mawr College
Housing with carefully-selected, experienced host families who provide two meals per day

Cultural activities & excursions provide participants with a deeper understanding of daily life, culture, and history in Indonesia
Comprehensive health, accident, and evacuation insurance for all participants abroad

Eligibility Requirements

  • No foreign language experience required
  • Minimum 2.7 GPA
  • At least 18 years old by application deadline
