Introduction

Leeds is among the top ten universities for research in the UK and is internationally acknowledged as a centre of excellence in a wide range of academic and professional disciplines.

Integrating research and learning and teaching is at the heart of our strategy. Our courses are taught by staff who are engaged in world-class research and cutting-edge professional practice.

We invest our own resources in helping organisations turn university research into world-class products and services. From the invention of the Ultracane which helps blind and visually impaired people, to a spin-out company which provides expert services and new technologies for the biopharmaceutical, defense and healthcare sectors, we are at the forefront of innovation.

Our size and international reputation enables us to offer one of the widest ranges of academic courses in the UK. During the current academic year there are over 32,000 students from 145 countries attached to 700 undergraduate and 474 postgraduate degree programmes. We have been awarded 16 National Teaching Fellowships -  more than any other English university - reflecting the excellence of our teaching.

Course Descriptions: Module Catalogue   |   Schedule of Classes

Please click here for information to help incoming Study Abroad/ Exchange students choose suitable modules to study at Leeds. Note that some modules are taught over the entire academic year, and students staying for only one term may not register for them.

Workload per Semester

Students must study 60 credits of modules per semester (120 in total if they are staying for the whole academic year). The number of credits each module is worth is stated within each module description.

Students may take 50 credits per semester and still be considered to be a full-time student, but must have this agreed with their home university, and be sure that this does not affect their visa status.

A 10 credit module is expected to require 100 hours of student effort to complete satisfactorily. It should be noted, however, that the module credits do not equate to the number of lecture hours per week, as is the case at some universities. This will vary between each module and your 100 hours of effort may also include attendance at tutorials, laboratory or other practical work, group work and your own private study.
