PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Japan: Waseda University program is affiliated with Waseda University, a private research university in Tokyo. Waseda currently enrolls 54,000 students, including almost 4,700 international students from 90 countries. A  CSU IP Program Coordinator oversees the program on the ground in Tokyo. They are a full-time local staff member with an office located on the Waseda University campus. The CSU IP Program Coordinator organizes excursions and provides assistance to all CSU students studying in Japan (Waseda and Tsukuba).

Japan - WasedaCenter for Japanese Language (CJL)
CSU students enroll in the one-year Japanese Language Program (JLP) at the Center for Japanese Language (CJL) at Waseda University. This program is designed for students who want to focus primarily on studying Japanese language.

School of International and Liberal Studies (SILS)
CSU students enroll in the One-Year Study Abroad Program at the School of International Liberal Studies (SILS) of Waseda University. Each semester, students take 6 credits of Japanese language plus SILS courses (in English) from a wide variety of subject areas such as history, politics, economics, culture and society.  A list of the previous year’s elective courses offered in English by SILS can be found here.

School of Political Science and Economics (PSE)
CSU students enroll in the One-Year Study Abroad Program at the School of Political Science and Economics (PSE) of Waseda University. Students take courses through PSE and also have the option to enroll in Japanese language courses. Courses at PSE are designed specifically for Political Science, International Relations, and Economics majors.
For more information about the academic program, students may refer to the CSU IP Academic Bulletin. Note that course offerings are subject to change and may not be offered during the year of intended study.

LOCATION

The Japan: Waseda University program is located in Japan’s capital city of Tokyo. With a population of over 12 million, Tokyo is one of the world’s largest cities. Waseda University is located in the Shinjuku area of Tokyo, which is famous for history, fashion, and food. As would be expected of a city of its size, Tokyo is on the cutting edge of everything from architecture, technology, and fashion, to food, and pop culture. Explore centuries-old temples, gardens, and castles that are only minutes from ultra-modern skyscrapers, electronics stores, and haute couture fashion centers.

HOUSING

Housing is arranged prior to arrival in Japan in coordination with Waseda University. CSU IP students have the opportunity to live with Japanese host families through homestay arrangements. Off-campus temple dorms (located 5-15 minutes from campus) are available, but very limited.
