Duisburg-Essen Business and Economics Summer Academy

Program Structure:
BEST Summer Academy is divided into two parts: Orientation (week one) and the actual Course Program (weeks two to five).

BEST Orientation (May 26 – May 31):
Monday: Arrival of BEST students, pick up service by local buddy students, evening reception
Tuesday: Introductory session, campus tour, city tour, welcome barbeque (with local students)
Wednesday: Orientation Day at Düsseldorf. Visit of the Federal Bank, State Parliament and Old Town.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday: first German language sessions
Sunday: Excursion day to highlights of the Duisburg region. Visit of an old coal mine, a medieval castle, suspension railway, and much more!

BEST Course Program (June 1 – June 27):
The actual course program starts in week 2.
BEST offers three modules:
* Business,
* Economics and
* German language.
Each module consists of 3 different BEST courses. Each module is worth three US credits.


Program ObjectivesDuisburg:
With increasing international economic and political integration, business and economic research as well as teaching are becoming more and more interrelated worldwide. Today, companies and institutions are demanding employees with greater international education and experience, so that they are able to succeed in a global environment. Therefore, the international BEST Summer Academy provides a perfect environment for students striving to acquire these specific international goals.
The BEST program aims to:
  •     increase students’ understanding of international business operations and economic policies in European countries
  •     enable students to compare various economic systems and international business practices from a European perspective
  •     provide students with the opportunity to study business and economic policy issues of present-day Europe; and finally,
  •     improve the German language proficiency of participating students.

Housing:
BEST provides housing for all students at the well-established hotel "Rheinischer Hof".
BEST RHEINISCHER HOF HOTEL
It is located within walking distance from the university campus (0.5 miles). Grocery stores, bars, restaurants, pharmacies, bakeries, and Laundromats are just around the corner.
The city center of Duisburg, with numerous shops, historic sights, and two shopping malls, is less than a mile away. A tram station is right in front of the hotel building and
Duisburg Main Train Station is only one stop away. The tram can also be used to reach Duisburg's neighboring city of Mülheim.
The accommodation in a twin room includes breakfast and costs EURO 1,050 per person. The rooms are available from May 27 (arrival) to June 30 (departure), except the weekend of the excursion to Berlin.
Every room is equipped with a TV and free high speed Wi-Fi Internet access. There is a seminar room available in the hotel for your homework and research. Also, microwaves and refrigerators will be provided. Laundry service is included as well.

Prospective BEST students from our partner colleges and universities may not be charged for the tuition, according to existing cooperation agreements. MSM welcomes arrangements with our partner institutions providing tuition waivers for business and economic students from Duisburg in exchange for their students participating in the BEST program. However, except for tuition, these students must cover all other program costs. Requests for tuition waivers should be directed to the BEST office.
