About the Program:

Miami University Dolibois European Center

The Dolibois European Center is housed in a 15th century castle situated in a beautiful park at the center of Differdange, Luxembourg's third-largest city.  The Center, which celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2013, maintains an excellent reputation and strong ties to the local community.

Luxembourgers have a genuine affection for Americans and have special ties with Miami.  Many citizens remember with gratitude the American forces who liberated their country during World War I and II, and think fondly of their own John Dolibois, for whom the European Center is named.  Dolibois was born in Luxembourg, came to Miami as a student in 1938, and returned to his homeland as a U.S. ambassador during the 1980s.   

Being the oldest American program in Luxembourg, the Center enjoys the support of a wide range of local and international experts and officials.

Academics:

  • Earn at least 16 credit hours per semester.
  • Because the Center is considered Miami's "fourth campus", all courses taken are Miami courses (grades and credits apply like those earned in Ohio).  Non-Miami students may transfer credits to their home institution.
  • Other than the required language course, all classes are taught in English.
  • Miami students may complete a Miami Plan Thematic Sequence in one semester and/or fulfill the many Miami Plan requirements, including Global Perspectives. Some major/minor courses may be available as well.Students can complete courses towards the European Area Studies Minor.
  • Opportunities for Honors Program students available.

Prerequisites:

No specific classes or language level is required.

  • A 2.5 cumulative GPA (on a scale of 4.0) for students from any major applying for their sophomore, junior, or senior year
  • Non-Miami students must be temporarily admitted to Miami
  • A good conduct/judicial record
  • Completion and quality of the online application, including an essay and one academic letter of reference
 

Cost:

Studying at Miami's Dolibois European Center is one of the most economical and rewarding ways to experience Europe. Total fees, including tuition, room, board, and fees, are comparable to those for the Oxford campus.  See our cost sheet for further details (cost sheet).  Additional costs include miscellaneous travel and personal expenses depending on the exchange rate and individual spending habits.

 

Federal Financial Aid:

Federal Financial Aid may be used on all Miami University study abroad programs. The amount of aid available to each student varies based on the program of study and the student's financial need as determined by FAFSA. Students are encouraged to meet with the Office of Financial Assistance in the Campus Avenue Building, before they apply for their study abroad program.


Scholarships:

Students who currently hold any Miami Scholarships such as the Oxford Scholars, Harrison Scholarship, Honors Scholarship and many others can use those scholarships to study abroad. For specific information concerning Miami University scholarships students should check the Financial Aid and Scholarships information on the study abroad website. Students are encouraged to meet with the Office of Financial Assistance in the Campus Avenue Building, before they apply for their study abroad program to determine how their scholarships will be applied to their study abroad program.

There are a multitude of national and university scholarships available to Miami University students who study abroad. To determine scholarship eligibility, please review the Financial Aid and Scholarship information on the study abroad website. If you have specific questions about scholarships please contact the Office of International Education.

The Luxembourg Office offers a number of scholarships for students. Students who have financial need are automatically eligible for these scholarships and/or loans if you file the FAFSA. These scholarships do not require an additional application process and will be awarded before students leave to participate in the program.


Additional Information:
