Program Description

The Program
Nestled in the heart of Paris, the North Carolina Consortium in Paris program is a great opportunity for students who wish to increase their French language proficiency and gain first-hand experience with French culture. With this thoughtful program design, students will have the chance to experience cultural immersion every day by living with a host family, communicating in French, and exploring the City of Light as only a local could.

The Surrounding Area
Paris is a convenient location for travel around France or elsewhere in Europe. Students are encouraged to plan short trips within France to better their French language skills and experience different aspects of French culture. Versailles and Giverny, where students can explore Marie Antoinette’s hamlet or Claude Monet’s garden, are both short train rides away. From Paris, further trips can include the South of France, the Alps, or Normandy. Students are also able to explore all that Europe has to offer. With Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, and Northern Africa nearby, students will have the opportunity to embrace a multitude of cultures.

Housing

To enrich the immersion experience, students may choose to live with in a homestay. Living and interacting with French families presents opportunities to communicate in French and increases access to authentic daily life and culture in France. Hosts are located in either Central or Grand Paris. Many past participants have cited their homestay as a highlight of their experience. Student who do not wish to participate in a traditional homestay, may choose to stay in a Foyer or residence hall (limited spots available).
