Program Description

Coordinated by UNCW, the Fudan University 4-week International Summer Session gives students the opportunity to get to know China, experience Shanghai, and be a part of the Fudan community. The program offers a unique cultural experience to students from all over the world and includes excursions to Hangzhou and Tongli to explore life beyond Shanghai. The University and Surrounding Area
Founded in 1905, Fudan University is one of China’s most prestigious universities. Shanghai is the largest city in the most populous country in the world, the People’s Republic of China. With a population of over 24 million, Shanghai is one of China’s and the world’s most well-known cities. Sitting along the Huangpu River, the city boasts both colonial and futuristic buildings and a stunning skyline along the waterfront. Attractions include the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Jade Buddha Temple, and much more.

Student Life
In addition to taking classes, the program participants will get several opportunities to learn more about Chinese culture and see surrounding parts of the country. In addition, there will be Chinese culture activities for the students. These activities have included things like Tai Chi, a calligraphy course, and learning to make the Chinese dumpling, Jaiozi.


Eligibility 

  • Degree-seeking student
  • At least sophomore standing at time of participation
  • Good judicial standing
  • 2.5+ GPA at time of application
  • No language requirement
  • Non-UNCW students must have the approval of home institution study abroad advisor

Academic Details

Students accepted into the International Summer Session program at Fudan can receive credits for courses in a variety of subject areas. Areas of study typically include history and culture, society and politics, business and economy, and global issues of the 21st century. Students have the opportunity to choose from nearly 20 available courses, including Chinese language.
 

Housing

Students will be housed in either a single or double room with other international students in either the main or supplementary buildings that make up the Fudan Foreign Students Dormitory. Every room is equipped with a balcony, air-conditioning, and Internet access. Participants will share a kitchen and laundry room, and will either have a private or shared bathroom. A mini supermarket, gym, and cafeteria are all located near the international student housing.

Program Cost
This program is available as a Study Abroad program. Participants pay a fee to Fudan University that includes:

  • Orientation
  • Tuition
  • Social Activities
There will be additional costs for international airfare, housing, meals, excursions, passport, health insurance, application fee and local transportation.

Financial Aid and Scholarships
UNCW students may apply federal and state financial aid towards this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding. Non-UNCW students should seek guidance from their home institution regarding financial aid and scholarships.

UNCW students may also apply for a UNCW Education Abroad Grant and additional study abroad scholarships. Grant applications and additional information are available at www.uncw.edu/international/abroad/aid.html.
