[COURSE OVERVIEW]

Course Description (INTL 130)

Discover the stories of Montreal and Quebec City, and write the story of your own experience visiting these cities where the cosmopolitan present is rooted in a very deep past.  Best known for its French elements, Montreal is one city with many cultures, including those of many immigrant groups who continue arriving and establishing their own distinctive neighborhoods.  This trip may include a walking tour of Jewish Montreal, and will visit the Drawn & Quarterly bookstores, featuring some of Canada’s best-known authors of graphic novels.  Montreal’s Pointe-à-Callière Museum literally exposes some of the city’s subterranean past, while other historical sites such as the Basilique Notre-Dame illustrate particular achievements of construction and/ or aspects of daily life.  Walking through the Old City in Montreal and in Quebec, you may feel like you’ve left the continent altogether, even though you’re only six hours from home.
