Eligibility Requirements
Suitable for students and recent graduates with at least one year of relevant college/university study in a related engineering field, such as electrical, electronic, mechanical, physics etc. Interns must have a genuine interest in engineering and commitment to observation of both practical and theoretical topics.
This internship in Greece is conducted in English. However, interns should expect that a language barrier can still be encountered to a certain extent.
Internship Details
As part of this Drone Technology internship abroad, interns will have the opportunity to design, assemble, and program drones and their subsystems at the research center of the International Hellenic University in Thessaloniki, Greece.
The program is designed to be hands-on and allow the intern to work in various phases of drone development, including field work. The team is made-up of well known professors and PhD researchers involved with large engineering & academic projects around Europe, offering interns international expertise.
Previous examples of activities have included the engineering of drones for precision agriculture or marine survey, laboratories that work on autonomous vehicles. When possible, field work activities may arise, when drone trials are being conducted (e.g. underwater drone trials which are conducted at the sea).
For internships in Greece, Greek language proficiency is not required. However, those joining our drone internships should be prepared for potential language barriers in certain situations.
In all cases, interns should expect that the first week of your experience will focus on settling in and gaining some introductory knowledge, as you will not “hit the ground running”. Rather, you should start with learning about the placement to gain an understanding of what you can build upon, develop, learn, and contribute. Ensure that you ask questions and provide feedback during the introductory period, so that your supervisor understands how you’re progressing. This will help them to better understand important details, such as how quickly you learn, what you find challenging, what you find interesting, etc.
Keep in mind that each drone internship experience is unique and may vary, as the specific project that you’re assigned will depend on review of your resume and your current level of studies and experience related to engineering and/or drone development. Therefore, if you’re at a more introductory level, you should reasonably expect a more introductory drone internship. Likewise, if you’re interning for a shorter duration, you will have a different experience from someone who is interning for a longer duration. Placement preferences are considered but always subject to availability.
