Tourism & Hospitality internships in Greece are located in the town of Marathon, a suburb of the greater Athens metropolitan area, located approximately 45 minutes (40 km) outside of Athens. The town is also about 20 minutes from the Athens International Airport and just ten minutes from the port of Rafina, which serves to connect the capital with various Greek islands. Combining the infamous blue ocean vistas of Greece, with the greenery of nearby mountains, the region is popular for visitors year-round.
Internship placements for Tourism & Hospitality interns are offered through a 4-star, beach-side hotel. The hotel boasts 1,200 rooms, 4 swimming pools, 3 dining areas and a large sports center. Interns can gain experience via the front office, reception, and restaurant, assisting with reservations, guest relations, events, and marketing teams. Other internship tasks can include liaising with local vendors and assisting with day to day administrative/operational tasks. Tasks and responsibilities will differ depending on seasonality and availability. Interns should therefore come with a flexible mindset as to the nature of tasks they get involved in.
Tourism & Hospitality interns in Greece must have a genuine interest in all aspects of the industry, with a commitment to hands-on practice of both practical and theoretical activities. In all cases, interns should expect that the first week of your experience will focus on settling in and gaining some introductory knowledge. Ensure that you ask questions and provide feedback during the introductory period, so that your supervisor understands how you’re progressing. This will help them to better understand important details, such as how quickly you learn, what you find challenging, what you find interesting, etc.
Typical Schedule: Monday to Friday, up to 8 hours per day. The internship timetable is expected to be full time, but can be based on shift rosters, so may involve early starts, late finishes or weekend participation. This will reflect standard industry hours, and will not generally require more than 40 hours per week, so you will still have free time to enjoy the city. Interns should come prepared to be flexible and to also communicate any requests in regard to your preferred timetable, which can be taken into consideration when planning for you.
