Program Description:
We are thrilled to be offering ONE session in summer 2026 with the exclusive opportunity to work and learn at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in beautiful Juno Beach, Florida.

Curriculum: Monday – Friday, we will be at Loggerhead Marinelife Center or on project approximately 8am – 1pm. You will have the afternoons and evenings free when programming is over.

On this program, you will learn about lab techniques such as suturing and bloodwork, shadow hospital rounds of sea turtle patients, participate in lectures on wildlife medicine topics, learn sea turtle handling and restraint methods working with cadavers, participate in a sea turtle necropsy, explore the Hatchling Discovery program, and tour the Florida Atlantic University Marine Science Lab and the indoor and outdoor hospital and aquariums at the LMC. One evening, we will go on a night turtle walk on the beach (approximately 8pm to midnight) to look for nesting loggerhead sea turtles (these are wild animals so of course a sighting isn’t guaranteed, but it is nesting season so chances are high!)

Activities will be dependent on what’s going on at LMC when you are there but may include:

• Indoor and outdoor hospital tour

• Case rounds of hospitalized patients

• Food preparation and animal feedings

• Suture, cytology, and bloodwork labs

• Hatchling Discovery program

• Wildlife medicine lectures

• Sea turtle necropsy

• Florida Atlantic University Marine Science Lab tour

• Nesting and hatching success surveys

• Sea turtle handling workshop with cadavers, including restraint methods, medical administration, tube feeding, and blood draws

• Guided coastal kayak tour and snorkeling

• Night Turtle walk (approx 8pm – midnight) one evening to look for nesting loggerhead sea turtles

Housing and meals:
Housing and breakfast and lunch will be provided. Housing will be in a hotel with a Loop Abroad staff member on-site:  each student will have his or her own bed, and rooms will be shared by gender.

Teaching Faculty: You will be learning from the sea turtle experts at Loggerhead Marinelife Center. You will also have a Loop Abroad instructor with you to assist. This program does not guarantee a teaching veterinarian or provide veterinary hours.

Breakfast and lunch are included. Breakfast is at the hotel, lunch is a packed lunch (you may be asked to prepare your own packed lunch from provided materials).

After programming each day, you will have transportation provided back to the hotel and will be able to choose how to spend your free time – whether you want to explore the beautiful local beaches, relax at the hotel, or enjoy cultural activities in the city with other members of your group. All transportation to and from program activities during the program is provided (private van). Airport pickup and dropoff to Palm Beach Airport is included  (at designated pick up and drop off times). During free time, transportation, activities, and meals are on your own.
