Eligibility Requirements
Medical internships in Bali are suitable for students who are currently enrolled in an academic pathway, toward full Medical qualification.
This internship is conducted in English. However, interns should expect that a language barrier can still be encountered to a certain extent.
Internship Details
Bali boasts a quality healthcare system, with many international medical providers offering high standards of 24-hour care. There are numerous placements available for Medical interns seeking an immersive opportunity. Local medical teams include English language speaking Indonesian-trained and registered doctors, nurses, and paramedics; BLS, ACLS, and PHTLS certified.
Medical internships in Bali are designed to provide real-world learning experiences that are observational in nature. Interns are never directly responsible for patient care and should not expect to be “hands on”, as this is restricted to the country’s fully licensed professionals. Rather, Medical interns gain insight into the International standards of the Indonesian healthcare system, which works to support both local and foreign patients alike.
Where there is scope to assist with non-patient care practical tasks, this will be conducted under guidance and supervision of qualified local professionals. Preferences for internship placement may be stated and discussed in advance; however, will be subject to availability.
Do I need to speak Indonesian or Balinese for this internship? No. Local medical teams include English language speaking Indonesian-trained and registered doctors, nurses, and paramedics. At times, interns may still encounter a language barrier to a certain extent. Come prepared and willing to surmount a language barrier (and ask for help when needed), as opposed to being intimidated by it.
Interns should expect that the first week of your experience will focus on settling in and gaining some introductory knowledge, to build an understanding of what you can develop, learn, and contribute. Interns are encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback, so that your supervisor(s) understands how you’re progressing and can assist to develop your internship accordingly.
Typical Schedule: Monday to Friday, up to 8 hours per day.
