Program Information

Embark on an immersive and comprehensive dental internship in Spain’s capital, Madrid! Dentistry interns have the unique opportunity to shadow and assist experienced dental professionals across a variety of preventative and treatment requirements. Whether you’re a pre-dental student or advancing in your dental studies, this internship offers exposure to both surgical and non-surgical procedures.

This program ranges from 4-12 weeks and has start dates every Monday throughout the year.

Your fully-hosted experience includes sourcing of your internship placement, personalization of your project plan, airport pick-up, orientation, accommodation, and onsite student support. See our full list of fees and inclusions on our website.

Eligibility Requirements

Dental internships in Madrid are suitable for university/college students at various levels of their relevant medical/dental studies. First year undergraduate students are eligible, provided that their studies have commenced. Recent graduates of dental school are also accepted.

This internship is conducted in English; however, outside of Supervisor interactions, a language barrier should be expected, especially when it relates to local clients. With the exception of fluent or native Spanish language speakers, all interns are invited to attend 5 (complimentary) Spanish language lessons, within the first 2 weeks of their internship.

Internship Details

Join experienced local dentists as they carry out everyday consultations and treatments in modern clinics. You’ll observe patient interactions, assist with routine procedures, and gain a well-rounded understanding of general dentistry in a professional healthcare setting. Expand your clinical knowledge, build confidence, and improve your Spanish language skills through cultural immersion.

Dental interns in Madrid observe local dentists in action! Whether you’re seeking to enhance your clinical exposure, gain experiential learning shadowing hours, observe treatments, learn about preventative care, or enhance your confidence with patient communications - an international internship provides ample opportunity to increase initiative, while building global connections with professionals and other interns.

Come prepared to shadow experienced professionals, as they carry out consultations and treatments. Clinical environments are dynamic and patient-flow can vary. Interns without professional qualifications are not directly responsible for patient care. Instead, hands-on involvement will fall into assisting, supporting, and practicing under supervision, while primary learning comes from shadowing and observation. Being adaptable, observant, and proactive will help you get the most out of your experience and contribute meaningfully to the team.

Do I need to speak Spanish for this internship? Spanish language proficiency is not a requirement to join. However, interns should expect that a language barrier can still be encountered to a certain extent. Interns should be prepared for the very natural and normal frustration of not always understanding what is being said around them. Come prepared and willing to surmount a language barrier (and ask for help when needed), as opposed to being intimidated by it.

This internship includes five complimentary Spanish language lessons, which must be scheduled within the first two weeks of the internship. These should be considered mandatory for anyone who is not already a fluent Spanish speaker. Any additional Spanish language lessons must be coordinated and paid for separately. We encourage all interns to take advantage of the opportunity to learn some Spanish skills during their program (or develop their existing vocabulary).

Interns should expect that the first week of your experience will focus on settling in and gaining some introductory knowledge, to build an understanding of what you can develop, learn, and contribute. Interns are encouraged to ask questions and provide feedback, so that your supervisor(s) understands how you’re progressing and can assist to develop your internship accordingly.

Typical Schedule: Monday to Friday, up to 8 hours per day.
