Study abroad this summer in Salzburg, Austria—beloved for its architecture, gardens, history, and music festivals! This Central European city and UNESCO World Heritage site is a popular summer destination, known for its easy access to the stunning natural beauty of the nearby Alps.
The AIFS Abroad Honors Experience is a unique opportunity for ambitious students seeking an Honors-level study abroad experience or those who are interested in pursuing undergraduate research or a future graduate degree.
Students on the Summer Honors program pursue a discussion-based curriculum with embedded research, community engagement, and self-reflection. Students are required to take two courses for a total of 4 credits: An Honors Inquiry Seminar for 1 credit and Contemporary Austrian Culture for 3 credits.
| Semester/Term | Eligibility Requirements | Rec. Semester Credits |
| Summer | Open to First Year, Sophomore, Junior, Senior Minimum of 2.5 GPA | 4-7 semester credits |
Students can expect small class sizes, support and interaction with the local community. They will be engaged in experiential and community activities that will ensure they stay out of the “study abroad bubble.” Academic credit for the AIFS Abroad Salzburg program is awarded by Fairfield University. Students will take classes at the study center and during their free time can relax in the student lounge area or work in the study room. They can meet with the AIFS Resident Director here for information and advice relating to the program, adapting to life in Salzburg and travel information.
AIFS Abroad is committed to a Learn-Connect-Grow academic framework that brings together our best practices accumulated during 60+ years of educating 1.6 million students. By focusing on the whole student and acknowledging the intersection of their identities, current academic needs, future goals, and the global landscape, we support students so they can thrive in our programs and beyond.
Professional development is at the foundation of our preparation for participants' time abroad. We utilize the CliftonStrengths assessment as a tool to help all participants understand themselves better, provide a vocabulary around their natural talents, and deepen the impact of their experience abroad.
As an organization we are committed to ensuring all identities are able to thrive in an inclusive global educational environment. Everyone has a complex identity, and the different aspects of your identity are important when deciding on a program and location. Review our Cultural Resources page to assist you when selecting a program that best fits your interests and needs.

We are the first education abroad provider to sign on with the
Climate Action Network for International Educators (CANIE).
Focused on making education abroad carbon neutral, we include
carbon offsets for all participants' return flights, environmental
education connecting students on the ground to environmental
projects, and make our own business practices more
sustainable.
AIFS funding, combined with other sources of financial support students can access, will help make international education goals attainable. Find out more about what we have to offer.
