Program Overview

Your Quarter in Tokyo program invites you to explore a city full of energy, creativity, and surprises, designed for students from all academic backgrounds. You will enroll in a combination of CIEE courses and courses taught online through CIEE’s global academic partner, ASU.  

Enhance your experience with co-curricular and extracurricular activities while immersing yourself in Japanese culture, from cycling through serene temple gardens and tasting matcha in traditional tea houses to discovering quirky neighborhoods like Harajuku or catching a live music show. Make Tokyo your classroom for adventure and discovery!

Unique Experiences

Visit Harajuku and Takeshita streets

a vibrant hub of youth culture, trendy shops, street food stalls, and Instagram-worthy cafes

Taste the world's freshest sushi

at Tokyo's Tsukiji Outer Market, where you can sample the catch of the day at a restaurant or food stall

Excursions & Activities

CIEE’s excursions and cultural activities in Tokyo will open doors for you to explore Japan’s rich diversity, language, culture, history, and timeless beauty in ways that will enhance your time abroad.

Samples of excursions and activities:

  • Tour Asakusa and get a glimpse into traditional Tokyo with the historic Senso-ji Temple and its surrounding Nakamise shopping street  
  • Visit the "Electric Town" of Akihabara, heaven for tech enthusiasts, gamers, and anime/manga fans  
  • Attend a kabuki or rakugo performance, immersing yourself in Japan's rich theatrical traditions
